Super Bowl forecasting is inherently an inexact science — which is why we like football — the outcome's determined on the gridiron by incalcuable permutations of bounces, blunders and big plays that ultimately spark one team to victory. That said, who doesn't want to know which team Madden '13 simulations predict will win, for example. Or, which team that famous prognosticating camel in New Jersey says will take home the Lombardi Trophy.
Here's a round-up of predictions. Some wacky, some serious — if you can take NFL beat writers (They all liked the Broncos and Patrots) — seriously.
Madden NFL '13: Baltimore
This annual faux Super Bowl is played with game controllers, not a pigskin. But apparently predicted last seven of nine Super Bowls correctly. Final score: Ravens 27, 49ers 24. Flacco named MVP after throwing two TD's and completing 70 percent of his tosses. We'll take that.
Jimmy Fallon's Puppies: Baltimore
On Late Night, Jimmy Fallon's puppies clearly favored Baltimore. See the video again here.
Clairvoyant Camel: Baltimore
Princess, a 26-year-old camel making her home in south Jersey's Popcorn Park Zoo, has nailed six of the last seven Super Bowl winners and picked the Ravens this year. “She loves graham crackers,” zoo manager, John Bergmann, told ABC News. “In one palm we write down with one of these magic markers the 49ers, and on the other, the Ravens. We cover them with a graham cracker so she can’t see. Whichever she chooses to eat first is her pick.” Princess went for the graham crackers hidden in the Ravens' hand.
Biased Orangutan: San Francisco
Siabu, a Chaffee Zoo, Fresno, CA-based primate, went with hometown 49ers, but has a mediocore track record over the years.
Nate Silver: San Francisco
The man of the political FiveThirtyEight blog pulled some numbers together and suggests the 49ers likely will win. Boo that.
Dr. Dre: Baltimore
TMZ reports, the rapper is going with the Ravens: “I’m excited for Ray Lewis,” Dre told TMZ. “He’s a good guy and I’m a fan of his … I’m wishing the best for him.” Yay, Dre!
NFL Beat Writers: San Francisco
According to a poll of NFL reporters covering the NFL, 55 percent of football journalists think the 49ers will win this Sunday. Whatever.
