After some struggles, we were relieved when the O's won the series against the Oakland A's, especially thanks to solid performances from shortstop J.J. Hardy and pitcher Miguel Gonzalez. But it was the oldest player on the team who really shined this week.
Stud of the Week for August 19-25:
The second-baseman who has been plagued with injuries these past few years is getting his groove back. These past two weeks, Roberts has had 12 hits and 11 RBIs, beefing up his average to .257 with a .320 on-base percentage
On Friday, Roberts highlighted a six-run fourth against the A's by hitting his first grand slam since September 12, 2009.
Later on in the game, Roberts really started to look like his old self: In the bottom of the eighth, he walked, went to second on a wild pitch, and stole third base—his first steal since April.
We were heartbroken last season when vets Roberts and Nick Markakis weren't able to be a part of the playoff run. But, Roberts' hot streak has us feeling optimistic. In his words: ''It's fun. This is what we all play for. You want to be in the race in August and September, and I haven't had a whole lot of opportunities to do that in my career. Unfortunately missed the fun last year. So to be able to contribute and be a part of it and just be one of the 25 guys is awesome.''
