Update: An MRI on Tuesday revealed no ACL or MCL damage, but a medial patellofemoral ligament tear in his left knee and a recovery timetable of six-to-eight weeks. Phew—could have been way worse!
As if getting swept in four games by the Tampa Bay Rays wasn't insult enough, the Orioles suffered another huge loss in yesterday afternoon's game in St. Petersburg, Florida. During the seventh inning, third baseman (and "Best Oriole") Manny Machado, 21, stepped on the edge of first base with the outside part of his left food, twisting his leg inward, then collapsed to the ground in pain. He left the field on a stretcher.
Our thoughts are with Machado, who was enjoying a breakout seasons in his first full years in the Majors and led the league with 51 doubles. We wish him a speedy recovery.
