Expansions

The Stone Mill Bakery’s new carryout business lets it quicken its pace.

We have good news for those of you who have endured the lunchtime lines at the Stone Mill Bakery in Greenspring Station: They've now opened a new, quick-service operation right next door called Stone Mill Gourmet 2 Go (10751 Falls Road, Lutherville, 410-821-1310). The place stands in stark contrast to the old bakery/sandwich shop—bright, modern, and open. A long cafeteria-style counter offers patrons a selection of made-to-order food: meal-sized salads, freshly assembled burritos and quesadillas, a revolving selection of sandwiches and wraps (as well as obelisk-sized french fries), and individually sized flatbread pizzas. A separate counter serves up espresso, smoothies, and luxurious desserts. It can get a little confusing to distinguish each station's individual lines, and since food is prepared to order, you'll need to wait a few minutes for it to be ready. But everything we tried was tasty, and if you're really in a hurry, two refrigerator cases are full of ready-made lunches and quarts of soup for a quick dinner. Like the name says, these dishes are meant to be eaten elsewhere, but there's a nice selection of umbrellaed tables outdoors.
