The heat and humidity is almost unbearable during hot Baltimore summers, but there are other areas in the world that have it a lot worse. Jill Turnbull, above, owner of No Worries Salon & Cosmetics in Towson, recalls the damage the scorching sun of her native Australia would cause. “For us, our winter’s day could be 100 degrees, so the hair integrity is crucial,” says Turnbull, whose salon offers a system to combat the effects of extra-intense rays, called the Aussie Exfoliate and Restore.
It’s a two-step process that uses an enzyme to exfoliate the hair (kind of like a facial for your locks), then adds collagen to moisturize and protect. “Imagine getting rid of all of the dull, dead cuticle; your hair can only reflect the light that makes it shiny, ” says Turnbull, explaining one of the many benefits of the service. “It does multiple things. It’s going to give our hair amazing shine, natural resilience, cuts blow-drying time in half, and helps with flyaway [hairs] in this humid weather.”
Although only available at the salon (No Worries recommends repeating every two weeks), there are a number of products (shown below) that can be used in between treatments.
