Let There Be Light: Seven years ago, when we bought this place, it was the windows that really drew us. It’s not a very big space, but it feels larger because it’s extended outside with the windows.
A Simple Plan: My partner, Jon, and I are modernists. We like simple, clean spaces—we weren’t going to put grandma’s furniture in here.
Storing Up: The orange pouf is from fab.com. The black Milo Baughman chairs come from an antiques store in Hampden. The sculpture on the coffee table is from Crate & Barrel.
Aha Moment: I don’t even think I realized until we moved in that it was a Hugh Newell Jacobsen townhome, and then I had to pinch myself. He is one of the iconic architects of modernism—that made it all the better.
Shelf Life: Built-ins and cubicle bookshelves are Jacobsen’s trademark. We put these cubicles in, in 2009. We wanted to stay true to Hugh.
An Apple a Day: The painting comes from the Fells Point Fun Festival. The artist, Dean Dalfonzo, offered to bring it over to see if we liked it. When he put it over the mantle, I was like, ‘Let me write you a check.’
Maximum Impact: Le Corbusier said, ‘Less is more.’ We like tchotchkes, but when we see them, we ask ourselves, ‘Do we really need that?’
Look and Touch: A home is a place that you can just be yourself and feel comfortable. It’s not a museum.
