Emily’s Desserts and Pizzazz Tuscan Grille are joining forces to open what they say is “Baltimore’s first wine and cupcake bar.” The grand opening features a free tasting at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at Pizzazz at Pier 5 Hotel in the Inner Harbor.
The wine and cupcake bar will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings after that, during which time the restaurant will transform itself into a lounge with low tables and pillows to add to the mood.
Emily Mainquist, owner of the eponymous dessert business, bakes vegan and some gluten-free vegan desserts. She will pair her cupcakes with local Boordy Vineyards wines and also with an international list, including wines from South Africa, Argentina, Italy, and France.
A Malbec with a chocolate peanut cupcake or a Boordy Chardonnay with a red velvet cupcake sounds pretty delicious.
The venture came about when Emily, whose desserts were being sold at Pizzazz, and Pizzazz co-owner Deanna Cook started brainstorming. “We wanted to make my business better and her business better, so we thought about partnering together,” Emily said. “It made sense.”
Emily’s Desserts also opened a kiosk this month at Towson Town Center on the third floor near the food court and in front of a soon-to-open Gifford’s Ice Cream shop. But that’s another post.
