New lounge at XS

XS in Mt. Vernon is opening a new lounge tonight (Feb. 12) on the third floor of its multilevel space, which seems to have something for everyone—all-day breakfast, sushi, homemade desserts, creative cocktails. As owner Phillip Quick describes it in a WMAR-TV video on the restaurant’s Web site: "It’s a coffee bar by day and a hip sushi space by night."

The sleek addition looks pretty from the video, offering intimate seating in dim lighting amid a variety of buffed hardwoods, paprika hues, and a geometric wall with more than 100 wines and sakes. Ambiance gets bumped up a notch with a candle-lit fireplace, stone fountain, and a DJ playing house music, reggae, and jazz. "Nothing too crazy," says Lee Morton, marketing director for the restaurant group that runs XS.

If you’re still looking for Valentine’s options, XS will have several breakfast creations, including Stuffed Hearts (tomato halves filled with crabmeat, spinach, and artichoke hearts, $9). Or special maki, like the Valentine Roll (a heart-shaped roll with salmon, shrimp, and more, $12.50). And the teddy-bear pound cake for two with gelato, $6.50, sounds like a perfect way to woo your sweetheart before the night is over.
