Baltimore Co.'s newest winery

dejon vineyardsI recently discovered that there's a winery right around the corner from the well-known Boordy Vineyards. DeJon Vineyard is the first new winery in Baltimore County in 23 years.

DeJon, named after owners John Wilkerson and his wife Denise McCloskey, is now offering daily wine tastings in its wine room, pictured, from noon-5 p.m. daily and is hosting weekly events on Wednesday and Saturday evenings.

It's a beautiful drive through Long Green Valley to get to the vineyard that was once a cattle farm. The daily tastings are $5 for a sample of seven wines and a wine glass. Of course, you can buy bottles, too.

I stopped by the vineyard last week and had a pleasant chat with John. I'll be writing more about the winery in our September issue.

DeJohn's wines are already award winners. The winery won a gold for its 2009 Vidal Blanc in the Maryland Winemasters' Choice Awards and also took two silver medals and a bronze.
