It's possibly the softest opening in town. The Olive Room at the Inn at The Black Olive in Fells Point quietly began serving meals in May. The rooftop restaurant and "green" inn are operated by the Spiliadis family, known for their fine food at the nearby Black Olive.
I went to The Olive Room for lunch yesterday to check it out. (The Black Olive is no longer serving lunch.) The new restaurant, on the fifth floor of the inn, has outside terrace seating (not in this weather, thank you) and a stunning view of the harbor whether you sit inside or out.
I happened to pick a corner two-top in the bar area that is called the "politicians table," executive chef/co-owner Pauline Spiliadis told me. It's so named because people like to hide out there. And that's exactly what I—and my Kindle with Karin Slaughter's thriller "Fallen"—did.
The Olive Room menu can be found on the restaurant's website, though you'd have no clue that the restaurant is open to the public from the information. I had a garden-fresh Greek salad ($9) with a six-ounce grilled Scottish organic salmon ($9). It was simple and delicious. Pauline's wonderful black-olive bread is served, too.
