It took a while, but Mo's Seafood in Towson finally opened on Tuesday. I stopped by today to see how it looked—and to sample the "Famous Jumbo Lump Crab Cake," pictured, which turned out to be a nine-ounce mound of Baltimore goodness.
The interior is pleasant and inviting, too, with wood floors and tables, pale gray walls, comfortable silver chairs, and a handsome bar. There's also an outdoor deck, pictured, where steamed crabs will be served. My waitress said today that the restaurant isn't serving crabs just yet.
Local diners may remember when the building was the Orchard Inn, a classy, special-occasion restaurant, whose charming host Hersh Pacino greeted guests by name and where Sammy Davis Jr. and other celebs dropped by when they were in town.
After the restaurant closed in 1997, it went through a few other renditions before Mo's took over the space in 2009. Mo's has five other locations around town.
At this newest Mo's on East Joppa Road, there is already a busy lunchtime trade going on with sit-down diners and people picking up carryout. There's a big parking lot, but once word gets out, it may be hard to find a spot whether you're there for lunch, dinner, or weekend brunch.
