Birches Restaurant in Canton is celebrating its 10-year anniversary tomorrow, Sept. 29. And if you dine there tonight or Wednesday, you have an opportunity to win a gift certificate for a complimentary meal. Each night, a random diner will be chosen.
To commemorate the big 10, the restaurant, owned by executive chef Brian Bruso and his wife/GM Marnie, has brought back favorite dishes like the pink house dip, crab a la vodka, and shrimp and scallop risotto.
Also, Birches will rev up its eighth annual comfort-food contest in October, probably next week, Brian told me when I talked to him on the phone this afternoon. For the competition, diners are asked to submit their favorite comfort-food cravings, and every Saturday evening, through March, the staff picks a favorite.
Chef Bruso then creates his version of the dish and adds it to the menu. The winners get bragging rights and their names printed on the menu.
Brian is hoping to stir up some new ideas this season. “I’m trying to get people to get a little crazy with it,” he said.
Birches has also added a bike rack recently to attract neighbors who may not want to use their cars. That's a nicety in the parking-deprived neighborhood.
But the Brusos are happy with their location. “We’re looking to continue the business for a long time,” Brian said.
