The question I get asked most is if we only pick restaurants who advertise with the magazine. In fact, I was asked that very thing point blank when I was on 98 Rock recently.
The short answer is no, no way, no how. If we were in some kind of collusion, our magazine would have been [...]

Mehek Fine Indian Dining is closed. Evidently, the two couples who owned the restaurant lived in New Jersey. The distance became a problem and there was talk of inner squabbles, according the owner of the building at 811 S. Broadway in Fells Point.
We’re always sorry to see a place shut down, but it looks like [...]

Ted Stelzenmuller of Jack’s Bistro—one of the most inventive chefs in town—has come up with a wacky appetizer called “Big Brother’s in Trouble.” Let’s just say real aquarium fish and sushi-grade tuna are involved.
B-mag’s associate editor Jess Blumberg saw it firsthand and told me about it. I wish I had a photo, but I’ll try [...]

I just got back from Sip & Bite, Baltimore's legendary greasy spoon, to check out rumors of its closure. I started getting besieged this morning by people who had seen paper covering the windows and wondered what was going on.
No one was answering the restaurant's phone, so I decided to do my own investigative reporting [...]

Chef Josh, who has masterminded several kitchens in recent years, including, most recently, Night of the Cookers, is taking over the cooking reins of the new restaurant Alizée. He sent me an e-mail yesterday afternoon but I was away, delivering Berger cookies to my brother in North Carolina (but that’s another blog).
Anyway, Alizée has taken [...]

I could spend all day reading people’s food blogs. We’ve got some great ones originating right here in Baltimore—Mango and Ginger and Dining Dish to name just two.
But one I really like is Slashfood. It was recently picked as one of Time magazine’s top 25 blogs. It has a spread of topics from food news [...]

Joe Edwardsen of Joe Squared is always planning ahead for the next big thing. First, he introduced his square pizza; then, moved on to coal-fired pizza. Now, he’s setting up a barbacoa (Mexican barbecue) place at the corner of North Avenue and Howard Street across from his pizza emporium. It’ll be called Cuadrado, which is [...]

Kinkead’s in our nation's capital will dock in our Colonial capital in April with a more casual version, says Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema, one of my favorite restaurant critics, in today’s paper. The seafood restaurant, which recently was ranked number 12 in Washingtonian’s top 100 restaurants, will take over a waterfront spot (12 Dock St.) [...]

The owners of Freda’s Kitchen, a relatively new upstart in Mt. Washington, are poised to start phase two of their New York-style deli with a recently granted liquor license. “We’re ready to move to sit-down service,” says Josh Emmer, who owns the 76-seat restaurant with his parents, Linda and Martin Emmer.
With the liquor license and [...]

Premier Baltimore baker Duff Goldman has outdone himself this time. He’s baked an amazing cake for ABC’s “Lost” cast and crew to celebrate its 100th episode. Check it out on actor Jorge Garcia’s blog (or Hurley as he’s known to the show’s fans). There’s also a photo of Duff with Hurley.
Okay, I admit that I’m [...]
