Marc Nathan——who has owned Cards, Comics, and Collectibles in Reisterstown for nearly 30 years——used to travel to conventions throughout the country and wonder why he didn’t have a Comic-Con in his hometown. So he started one at the Sheraton Towson in 1999. “The funny part was, I didn’t realize I would be doing this for the rest of my life,” he says with a laugh. Now in its 14th year, Baltimore Comic-Con takes place at the Convention Center, this year on September 7-8. The convention will feature the annual costume contest (IronMan and Transformers are popular this year) and an appearance by Kevin Smith and Jason Muse, aka Jay and Silent Bob, who are promoting a new movie. “With a new movie practically every week, the comic world has exploded,” Nathan says. It’s become so big, in fact, Nathan already announced that 2014’s Baltimore Comic-Con will be spread over three days.
This year’s Comic-Con looks to be bigger and better than ever.
