Sunny Side Up

With summer in full swing, we ask the experts for tips on the latest in swim apparel. Ready, wet, go!

Q: What is the trend in bathing suits this summer?

A: "There are a lot of great trends out there," says Emily Davis, an assistant manager of Towson's South Moon Under. "Summer 2011 trends include bright colors, Aztec and geometric prints, lots of hardware with big gems, nautical, and floral designs."

Q: Any common mistakes people make when bathing suit shopping?

A: "The biggest mistake people make is not coming out of the dressing room to show us what they are wearing," says Kate Frankton, an assistant manager of Towson's South Moon Under. "You are going to be wearing it on the beach, so you might as well show us how it looks while you're still in the store. We will always be honest."

Q: Can anyone wear a two-piece?

A: Urban Chic assistant manager Jamie Halloran says, "If you're comfortable and the bathing suit fits well, you can wear a two-piece at any age. Comfort and fit are what it's all about. Look at actress Helen Mirren. She rocks a two-piece!"

Q: What kinds of bathing suits don't ride up in the water?

A: "In general, the more coverage you have, the less likely the bathing suit will ride up in the water," says Brittney Sizemore, manager of Fells Point Surf Co. in Towson. "If you start with one that's cheeky, it's only going to get worse in the water."

Q: Any cute cover-up ideas?

A: A Style Studio owner Lauren Rutkovitz says, "It's a big season for brightly colored kaftans. Kaftans also look great belted over jeans. Tunic shirts are also popular. They can take you into night with leggings. The idea is to get the most bang for your buck in these tough economic times."
