UNCORKED! 2011 "A Night of Mystery"

One of my most favorite events is Monday—Uncorked! 2011. The theme this year? A Night of Mystery. (I'll never forget the year the theme was fire and ice and one of the tables had two very attractive fire people standing amongst the dishes.) The night starts with a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by a three-course wine dinner and an after party featuring Entertainment Exchange's band Free Spirit. But the best part? The amazing tablescapes. Each year the room just takes my breath away with its creativity and wow-factor. Proceeds benefit the Baltimore Chapter of NACE, the Foundation of NACE, and Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland. The event is Monday from 5:30-10 at the American Visionary Art Museum at 800 Key Highway. Tickets are $150 for non-NACE members—and well worth it.—JED

We're getting close to the end. So, now you should be worrying about wrapping that present vs. buying it. We adore the Chewing the Cud reusable fabric wraps. Printed on 100% organic cotton with soy-based inks—they make the gift almost secondary. Available at Red Tree—with tutorials here. Around $12 for a 28" X 28" piece of fabric. —JED

homemade

For your co-worker that will appreciate the gesture—anything homemade. Chocolate sauce, vodka, peppermint bark, cookies—anything that shows you took some extra time to make something by hand is always amazing. And it doesn't have to be food—I got the most lovely homemade calendar too. It really is the thought that counts.—JED

art

For the artiste—Lori Larusso's graphic yet inviting paintings of food settings are a visual treat. Art is always a timeless gift—never goes out of style, never gets too small, and most likely won't need replacing in a few years. Medium paintings like the Fruit Ka-Bob, above, and the Hot Beverage and Cinnamon Roll, below, go for $450 while she also has Olive paintings that are a bit easier on your "walleting" at $100. Paintings can be found at Jordan Faye Block Contemporary in a converted church at 1401 Light Street in Federal Hill.—Shabdiece Esfahani, intern
