Shine On

In our April issue of Baltimore magazine, Shine Collective's Melissa Kirby, Alana Madill, and Jamie Campbell, talk about transitioning your wardrobe from winter into spring. I had to edit down a lot of what they said because of space and wanted to print the entire interview here. Check out the mag for their list of key pieces to add spring to your style. I bought the RGB "Toast" nailpolish a few weeks ago. And have pretty obviously hinted to my husband that I want this for Mother's Day. In fuschia please.

And in light of the gorgeous weather we've been having, this seems very timely. The images are...

Sock It To Me

Recently, we stumbled across a great sock line—Per Pedes—at men’s store J.S. Edwards. Made in Colombia, and priced at $27.50, they are part sock, part art. The socks are all cotton and cleverly named, including Casino Royale, Raging Bull and Riches to Rags. —Nikki Reese (intern)

Shop Moms

Last week I interviewed four moms who also own local boutiques for a piece in May issue. It was such a wonderful experience for me to connect on a mom-level with these amazing women who are able to balance so much. I enjoyed interviewing them and we all veered off topic numerous times to compare potty training stories, music class information, and how to get them to eat. I'd love to get them all together for a big playgroup or something. I'm sure they face a lot of the same issues. I look forward to sharing the piece in May's UpFront Shopping pages. Now, i just have to write the darn thing. —JED

Circus Circus

The new April issue is already out in some places so I wanted to mentioned our great circus shoot in Objects of Desire. It's one of my favorite OOD shoots we've done and we had so much stuff we couldn't fit it all in one layout. Circus is everywhere. Anthropologie did an entire catalogue with a very vintage sideshow theme—this $218 Ringmistress Tote is from them—and J.Crew's Crewcut catalogue has a kid-friendly circus theme. I'll be posting circus items on the blog over the next few weeks.

Liberty of London

Today is the perfect day to talk about Liberty of London. I was in Timonium yesterday reporting on a story for the May issue and ran into Target. All the Liberty of London stuff has arrived and it's so hello spring. Lots of bright floral prints on dresses, bedding, dishes, rain boots. There are garden gloves and kitchen chairs, ties and boxer shorts all in pattern overload. (I only walked away with a milkcrate to help organize my car.) It was nice to see so much happy color in the store. And it's a nice contrast to the Jean Paul Gaultier—though I do love the Spanish mustard party dress. —JED

A Well Kept Nest

On Friday the Little Shopper and I hit the (very wet) Home & Garden show in Timonium. Lots of ideas for home improvement and I always get a kick out of those as-seen-on TV. I came thisclose to buying a mop. There were beautiful orchids and bonsai trees. Plus, a small craft show. Lots of the stuff was very, umm, interesting (life-like dolls!) but not necessarily my cup of tea. My favorite booth was A Well Kept Nest—run by the charming April. She does great capes and super poufy tutu's (those two things seem to go hand-in-hand) but I really loved her tailored themed parties. She'll put together a whole party package for bridal and baby showers including invitations. And I loved her art work too—so fresh and whimsical.

I think the Little Shopper was already planning her 2nd birthday party.
