The idea "came to her in a dream," says founder Lana Rae. After years of being involved with fashion shows and events she finally decided to create her own. "Fashion Awards MD will be a night to highlight, celebrate, and recognize the talent of Maryland's fashion industry, including emerging talent, trail blazers, and industry celebrities. The amount of talent we have here in our home state is overwhelming, and I'm so excited to be able to have us all come together and be inspired by one another," says Rae.
FAMD will take place on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the University of Maryland's Kay Theater (Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center) in College Park, with tickets ranging from $32 - 100. There will be two shows, each featuring different categories.
The 4 p.m. show (doors opening at 3:30 p.m.) will feature accessories, boutiques, fashion stylists, designers, rising stars, and new talents. Award presenters include Miss Maryland Teen USA 2012, Stephanie Chervenkov, Diva Davanna of the Tyra Banks Show, and Sally DiMarco, coordinator of the Fashion Design Program at Stevenson University.
The later show, which starts at 7:30 p.m. (doors opening at 7 p.m.) will feature designers (men's custom and tailor and women's couture), hair stylists, makeup artists, media members, models, and photographers. Miss Maryland USA 2012, Nana Meriweather will be presenting an award, as well as Beverly Hill, president of the Fashion Advisory Board at Stevenson University.
