I recently spent time at dresscode by Gita at the Village of Cross Keys for a small story that will run in the March issue of the magazine. Owner Gita Chowdhury recently sent me an image of one of the beautiful scarves that she will be selling for spring. I love it because it's so pretty and modern.  Here's what it says: "No one really liked the Queen of Hearts but she was famous and loaded so one really cares ... The Dormouse lived in herbs teacup and looked for a job as a stylist meantime started dating the Hatter ... White rabbit with black tail went down the subway trying to catch the R train to Queens ."

Talk Shop is on maternity leave (my mini shopper was born January 12th) ... but still checking in on occasion. Last weekend mom and babe attended a great (free!) babywearing class at Bediboo. Taught by certified babywearing instructor Marie Rinkoski Spangler—expecting her second baby this spring—the class covers all different types of baby carriers including Mei Tai, Ergo, wraps and slings. Marie went over each one, demonstrating proper techniques and answering questions. I had brought along a wrap and Ergo I already owned and she took the time to show me again (and again) how not to be intimidated by suspending my new baby in a big piece of fabric. Gretchen—Bediboo owner—carries a good selction of carriers in her store including some "pre-loved" ones.—JED

Our brand spanking new Bride spring/summer 2009 should be hitting newsstands any day now. While obviously bias, I think this is one of our best issues ever filled with a wealth of information on everything from dresses to table settings to flowers and cakes. Our Aisle Style section is really visual with great ideas for invitations, shoes, food, gems, and groom items. We're always looking for ways to improve upon what we do—so I'd really love feedback as to what's missing and what bride-to-be's love. I love our Real Weddings section too and all the great photographers who get to showcase their work. It almost makes me wish I wasn't already married—just so I could take advantage of all the great advice. We get a little lull here before we start working on Bride 2010—so let us know your thoughts. Sadly, Federal Hill's Holly G is closing its doors on Sunday, January 18th. That's the bad news. The good news is for the next two weekends all clothes and shoes will be 75% off. Everything else in the shop will be 50% off. Even better news: The Mt. Washington location will remain open and is offering 60% off shoes and clothing. Holly G was one of the first high end boutiques to pop up on Charles Street and has been followed by an impressive rooster: Babe, Whimsy/Reason, etc. And owner Gwendy Long has always impressed us with her ability to do it all: successful boutique and successful law career.
