Fun Fitness

New workout craze can spice up your routine.

Who knew that salsa could help you lose weight? Well, the kind you dance to at least. Zumba, a fitness program that combines Latin dances and cardiovascular exercise, is becoming increasingly popular because, clients say, it makes exercising fun. The aerobics routine, which was developed in Colombia, South America, draws from several Latin styles, including cumbia, merengue, salsa, and mambo, while especially toning the abs and thighs. Classes are offered at A Step Ahead Dance Studio in Carney, where instructor Karen Daniels says, "Zumba is a great workout without feeling like one." For other locations visit zumba.com.
